HP Laserjet 5000N help

I recently purchased a HP LasaerJet 5000N but cannot get out to print positives. Anyone use this printer?

Why did you buy a laser printer to print positives, as opposed to an inkjet printer? You could print on vellum I suppose, I did for a few years at one point, but inkjet to film is probably better. Do a search here on vellum if you want to try that out. Though they may not come out black enough, there are sprays that help them get blacker, or if you're doing single color work, you can send them down your dryer (the heat remelts the plastic toner so it spreads out a little, making it more dense)

you need to make sure you have the post script driver for them.  we use a HP5100 still for some small vellum jobs but the new drivers do not like win10

Same here, but that doesn't actually matter. In this case, it's your printer and what materials you can use with it to make a positive, so you can burn a screen. There were times when people who sold "clear film for laser printers" said you could use that, but they never tried to make a screen, I can tell you that, lol, ignore that. So, get some vellum or maybe some Casey's Translucency, if that's still available. You'll need to do some testing of course. You will probably have to set your printer to it's darkest setting. There are most likely a lot of YouTube videos on the subject. Good luck, you'll get it. Or, check out inkjet printing onto screen film, there are many options out there.

if you can find a used EPSON 4800 or 4880 you will really be much, much happier with that. Some don't have a budget for $500 or so and especially during these times it might be  harder to get it to the shop, but if you can it is worth it.

I can still smell the toner aid from our early years of vellum use as well as the tremendous frustration of poor registration. The guys are right about a 4880, inkjet to film, world of a difference.
