Can someone check out this .ai file?
« on: September 13, 2011, 12:00:39 AM »
A customer of mine sent me an ai file which I thought I could open in Corel X4. It is giving me an error message and cant import into X4. I thought I was able to open ai files, maybe im wrong, or maybe the file is not setup right.

The error message is probably telling you to un-compress it first, right?
That's the one I usually get. Most Illy users don't even know that their files are compressed by default.
Someone here will either un-compress it or to be safe, usually I get a pdf or eps version.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Actually its saying "an error occured while processing and the file cannot be opened" hopefully my customer has a different file.

If it is a compressed .ai file, Corel will not be able to open it up. When they save the file, tell them to un-check the compression option.

Or hope they will not take their file to a shop that can accept their file as is....We should never make our lack of the proper software to do the job, our client's problem....

Allright, this file is Jacked....... All the CS from 1-5 tell me both this is Legacy..... Prior to the CS versions and that there is an offending error.....
I have the older versions at home but..... I tried several programs that crack open graphics files.....

I did get it to open in CS 3   the file is is a placed jpeg or bitmap bigger then the illy working space with a little bit of it in a clipping path...

Looks like this.... Good luck with this one.

I believe the art board is set up for to be sign sized.  I opened it in FlexiSign and said there were open paths and asked if I wanted to close them.  There is some vector stuff that you can't see on the art board in illy that shows up at full size in Flexi.  But yeah, it's still jacked lol.
