Design Placement on Hoody Back
« on: January 23, 2012, 10:05:42 AM »
I have learned that the hood does not hang down and obscure the image far as one might think it does, but still cheat it down about a half inch.
What about you guys?
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

We always lowered the hang a bit no matter what. Everyone doesn't wear garments like they should, especially hoodies. lol

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

I spent the weekend replacing 24 hoodies because the customer bitched that I printed it down too low... too further kick me in the nuts the hoodies had a 4 color flag left arm 1 color down the sleeve right arm , 2 color front and 2 color back. Tried to refund and give them free hoodies but they demanded a reprint instead because really I hated the job the first time around... They wanted the print higher up like a normal back print.

What do you guys consider a "correct" location for a back print on a regular tee?

I keep in mind that if the hood is up the print should fall like a regular back print. If I cheat down, it is between 1/2-1 inch. I use discretion depending on the design. I sometimes see prints on hoodies that are so far down because if the hood and they look awful (in my opinion).

Three and a half to four inches on the back of t's, about an inch loewer on hoodies. Never have more space between top of image to collar, than bottom of image to bottom hem.

For names we do about sleeve center depending on the hoodie. Top of name with center of seam where arm attaches  I have done this and been told its too low and been told its too high so it must be about right lol for designs we do the top at about the same give or take

four fingers from the bottom of the collar for normal mens t's.  Depending on the art size this may change, if the art is exceptionally tall.  Normal 12x12 print will be 4 fingers

I may do that, but, this is a little subjective, so I will definitively include a slight disclaimer.

In the meantime, download that chart now. You don't need it in Newbies for that.

I did download it, but I thought it would be nice to have it there for the new people in the business and on the board.

Well, like I said, since positioning is a bit subjective, I've always posted it as an answer  to a question rather than an unsolicited "tip"
