Ink smears on film
« on: March 19, 2012, 12:23:01 PM »
Running an Epson 1400 and cheap film. I am getting these smear on the ends of my film. Any idea whats causing it? It usually doesn't affect anything as I just cut off that piece before burning.

Ink somewhere in your printer. It happens on my 1100 every once in a while.
Try installing a waste tank.

I've had this happen on my 1400 too.  There was a little "well" inside the printer on the left - took a paper towel and soaked up some of the ink.

This printer has been going strong for 3 years now. Maybe I should look into a waste tank. Or like my other post a new 17" printer.

At the far left there is a wiper of sorts. Take a paper towel and let it soak up the ink. Its just build up and that should fix it.

The 3000 I use at the shop pulls that stunt every now and then.
It's either the wiper, or perhaps some gunk got on the capping station.

I often wish the printers guts were more easily accessible.
Simple to clean when you can get at it.

I had that going on and couldn't figure it out then I realized my new films were curling on the ends and touching the print head.

A common problem, if you can call it a problem, we've never had it interfere with the image, and it's pretty rare. We use WP film.

Take a paper towel and soak up the ink off the wiper. Its building up and transferring to the film.
