a good flat, preferably bright white tabletop will do until you can get a light table.

Nope.. a white countertop or painted plywood works fine until you can make or buy a good unit.

Hey Rob,

put in the few extra minutes per job when you get the triloc and use it from day one. Do it right (avoid creating bad habits) and it will be  the most valuable piece of equipment in your shop!

you could make your own fairly reasonably.  plywood and an acrylic panel...put some light diffusing vinyl on the back...oh, and a light.  I made one from an old bathroom vanity...complete with storage on the bottom.

I found one on CL for $50 , there were lots to choose from in my area , I waited and got one the size I liked 28"x36",  crafters use them for stained glass , The brand I got was "HENNING" works excellent and was from the graphics era.

it's really easy to make your own. the time it would take you to unpack and put together a light table that you buy for 400+ bucks, you can easily build your own.

craigslist is a great place to look.  you might even be able to get one dirt cheap or even free.

I like that idea!  I have a light table from my father-in-law's drafting days... but I'm also getting a free 8' cabinet that needs a top, might need to make it a large light table. :)
