Discharge, soup to nuts. Talk to me like I am a 5 year old.
« on: October 05, 2012, 09:28:51 AM »
I am ready to try this stuff.  Soup to nuts, what is best stuff to buy, where is the best place to get it, what all should I know, do I need a full mixing system for colors or should I just be using plastisol for top colors.  Is there like a start up kit to try?  Pretend I have nothing, other than regular ink.

Leave nothing out.  Like I am a 5 year old.

1000% thanks in advance.

we've had FANTASTIC results with matsui white through 156 mesh screens.
for other colors we've had really good luck with Sericol.

Since I'm not fond of repeating myself unless absolutely necessary (plus it's Friday and i don't want to work too hard) try a search for "discharge" there are 7 pages. Should get you started.

OK Brandt here ya go. I use CCI 25WR emulsion using a 19" scoop coater on a 23x31 rigid frame. Block out with emulsion post expose and apply Hardener X.
For ink I have pretty much everything. PC and finished ink. Your choice they all work. PCs perhaps trickier but pick a system that has formulas like Sericol or CCI. Dont know if Rutland has formulas but their PCs are the old Pavonine from Union. Sericol for flos don't even try any thing else. For DC UB try a 70% base to white ratio. Best to leave screen in flood position. Keep fans away. Don't over tape the underside of the screen as the stencil needs to breathe. Too much tape actually traps water and you will get tape lines. Mesh counts from 110 to 305......keep low when printing manually. Gas dryer 10 ft heat minimum. Not impossible on electric.
P-Mail me with any other questions but don't forget to post how easy it was!

The hardner is an option when doing long runs but if you do 100 pcs you might as well skip that step. We use Ulano QT-discharge and had no problems so far. I would really look into the Magna Color discharge whites.

And here is our WB ink room. Note the formula book. Off to the right is a stainless sink and a one color manual jig to test and make samples. Cups and pails of all sizes stored below. Mustard bottles are best for PC dispersal.

Magna, Matsui, and Rutland for PCs. All work very well. CCI makes a great white and base and they are cheap. Haven't tried thePCs.

Stands for Phucking Crap that gets dried out if not stored properly or if it's Rutlands black
causing pigment bursts/blanks spots in your screens.
