Nickel for $200.00
« on: October 09, 2012, 06:16:28 PM »
Customers are sometimes crazy, ever get a customer that wants $200 art for a nickel and just can't see what the problem is, just draw it for me while I sit here and tell you about it...you know like the guy at the fea market does your portraits for 15 bucks.  Placed my order yesterday got my art ready today you know I,m your only customer LOL Ok rant over I,m done time to go home.

Just tell 'em that you have an artist that does that for you (and gets paid by the job), so it isn't as easy as they think.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

Haha.  That's exactly what it's like sometimes.

Frog has the right idea, evoke the mystique of art and get them out of that mindset without being pretentious.

It's easy for me... my wife is the artist and she doesn't like talking to the people... so I DO have that layer of abstraction.

We do need to start differing to "higher authority" more often and subtract our selves out as the "decision" makers more often.  That way we can say "I'll have to run it by the owner/boss and see what he says" kind of thing and that way WE aren't the a-hole and can actually look like the good guy fighting the good fight for them. ;)

You don't have to explain why it costs $200. Just tell them the price and then move on. If they don't want to pay for the design then whats next. People like that my eventually pay but will waist a ton of your time. (time = money)

People will pay it if you have a good enough portfolio that they can see (website/facebook/etc.  This will ease their mind and they can be more certain they will get something they like.  As our portfolio grows getting money for art just continues to get easier.
