1 color on hoodies with halftones.
« on: December 20, 2012, 10:36:37 AM »
This was a 2 day turn on art and seps (of course it was only 1 color) so that part was easier than average, but you do have to pay attention to using black halftones at 1 color with solid type.

I had some of my own good shots of ducks flying from years ago so reference was in the bag.

Art/setup/photo editing and manipulation total was $50.00

Nice look Dan. We don't even think of doing those without 2 screens anymore, even sometimes not charge for it.

we would have requested the type as a separate positive and shot 2 screens. that way you dont have to worry about mashing out the halftones and can run higher mesh without any coverage issues.

I can relate.  For this order, it was for somewhere near 12-24 hoodies and was tight on budget so customer wanted 1 screen. I think it was matter of getting it out the door for a Christmas party give away or something. Art had to be done and printed right away so a stellar halftone print was 2ndary but if you can, Get-R-Done.

Getting them something was #1 but I did compensate pretty good for the gain. I see a good transition between 0% and solid providing good contrast in the print with solid coverage on type.

This came out looking very good for just the 1 color with halftones.

So where is the unquestionable authority on this question anyway? Is there a special rule about use of an apostrophe in a contraction? We're always correcting grammar here, and some folks get pissed...

I donno.   I did it like the type they sent to me. They provided a mock up they did in the past. However you do it, they took the printed garments out the door.

Steve
You can see how I posted, indicating that I am well aware that some folks get pissed, and no one likes a seeming know-it-all, but there is a small group out there that prefers correct spelling and grammar on their shirts. Some even appreciate us pointing our what we perceive as errors , even if already printed, to raise awareness for the future.
I have been thanked more than once by clients who would've (not "would of", lol) otherwise had me print an error obvious to others.

In a contraction, like my previous use of "would've", the apostrophe takes and holds the place(s) of the missing "h" and "a" from "have",  but in this case, where is the contraction of which you speak?

Sorry, but sometimes the teacher, and proofreader in me from a past life comes through.

And, I am far from perfect.

No big story, but back in the '70's, I did a stint at a school for "drop-back-ins" in the Fruitvale in Oakland, and previously, proofread copy in a San Francisco print shop and combination bike and model train shop as well! (Actually, the most interesting part of this story would be that the school thing came up while pursuing the woman of my dreams at the time)

Now, the fact that I am also an ordained Minister usually raises eyebrows a little higher.
There are many facets to this amphibian jewel! ;D

The Children's are running in the hall. ')

I, being of unsound mind do not comprehend or retain rather, "grammar procedures or rules".  Telling me something today, doesn't mean I know I tomorrow. That doesn't mean that I forgot, but that I didn't grasp everything. I remember what I do grasp. Systematic processes I'm ok at.  Grammar rules no. Spell'n rules, no. Not that I don't want to, but can't.  I say can't, because believe me, I get embarrassed enough that I'd sure like to. I've tried many a processes and read many self help books. Nothing improves my downfall.

Something in me doesn't fire on (all) of the neuron connectors of the brain so I'm told. Only firing on 5 cylinders in a 6 cylinder engine. So, every 3-4 sparks is a miss fire while retaining and processing info.

Everything I know and r good at is from memory or repetitive steps/ actions. Not from true comprehension until further down the road. It takes me 3-4 reads to comprehend everything I'm reading. When in a fast paced meeting, everyone else is grasping all info and retaining while I am grasping about 1/3rd or so. I take notes like crazy and is prob. part of my atrocious hand writing.

The movie "Momento" comes to mind.

Surprisingly enough, I rarely spell something incorrectly on a job. Grammar, I have no clue if I miss it or not. Prob. do but nobody snatches me on it. well, I take that back. I get corrected on grammar on about 1 in 30 jobs or so at the time of concepts. Mostly because I take steps to accommodate my short comings.  Now, had I not been using a spell checker here, it would have been butchered.

I hate words like LIVE, and LIVE or There, their and if in Wva. Thar. Faux is another one. What the heck? Why not foe or even fo like it sounds. sheesh.
