What have you built???
« on: June 23, 2011, 03:35:40 AM »
I am just curious what others have built in their shop. I have a hard time paying for something if I can build it. I shopped everywhere for a washout booth. I wanted one with a top so water didn't go everywhere. All the ones under $1000 didn't have tops, small or where just cheap looking. I ended up building mine. I bought the Polypropylene sheets at a local plastic dealer. Then bought and learned how to use a plastic welder from Harbor Freight.  I think I have $170 into it. That’s including the plastic welder and enough plastic welding strips to make 10 to 15 more of them.

Business diversification - evil-bay off wash booths.
When there are no standards, you must make them!

I've made several tools and gadgets to help parallel the auto.  I've also built a DIY registration system.  I'll see if I have pics of any of it floating around.

If your images are too big to attach, then this may help. Thank you Diane CYW

You can bypass some of the work with bbc code and use the Image Icon shortcut(the first one) above the smilies.

Pictures floating on the boards somewhere.
I made a squeeze sharpener (maintainer) and an exposure table.
The exposure table uses a single point 1000w light source the size of a cigar.

I built a drying cabinet and a 1K M-H exposure unit (w/vacuum).

I've built a washout booth, an exposure unit, and various tables.  My craftsmanship leaves a lot to be desired though.

I have built a few screen printing related items... A 16' long ink table that held something like (10) 5 gal pails of pigment, and 12-14 gal of pigment on an angled shelf above the table. The tops were melamine particle board for easy cleaning, and the scale was on a 24 X 24 melamine rolling base that passed over the 5 gal pails. Does that make sense??? I wish I had a picture. This thing was sweet  ;D

I recently built the screen stretcher we use. The four boxes are mounted on tracks that adjust from an 18 X 18 to a 25 X 36 in about a minute. They also lock down so no pick up when tensions get high. I usually leave 2 adjacent boxes slightly loose to accommodate different frame sizes. Set the frame in and bump the boxes in place. I also added a flow control to the system.... Instead of turning the air on and dialing up the pressure with the pressure knobs, I set the pressure and flick the switch... Much easier  ;)
