Epson Cartridge Ink Level Readings
« on: March 24, 2013, 09:48:05 PM »
Are these just guesstimates based on page count and average usage? And is it fine tuned a bit by print quality and paper type? I figure it's the common way for most brands.

And, btw, I use clear refillables so I can also check, and monitor more accurately

I did see a Brother that I think had floats or something that could actually give more accurate readings.

Reminds me of my old Peugeot 505 that had a float in the sump to give an oil volume reading. Good feature, makes sense.
That rug really tied the room together, did it not?

But how are they "read"?

My point is that I am thinking that if I fire off a bunch of photo quality pages of pure cyan, or any other single color, all of the cart readings will go down based on an average use of all inks in photo quality mode.

I think they are just guesses, but am guessing myself!
there have been times when my cartridge was empty, but I could still print and the other way around.

Yes, we've won our share of awards, and yes, I've tested stuff and read the scientific papers, but ultimately take everything I say with more than just a grain of salt! So if you are looking for trouble, just do as I say or even better, do something I said years ago!

I have never trusted them. Take out the cartridges and look... our 1400 Utility will tell us it's fine, when it's not. We have 220 ml carts in 4800, plainly visible when you're getting low.
